NEVADA - The Nevada boys’ soccer team came up short against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura by a 4-1 score in the Class 1A substate semifinals May 24 in Nevada.


The Cubs were only outshot 8-7 in shots on goal. But they lacked the accuracy to keep pace with Garner-Hayfield/Ventura, ending the season at 9-11.


Anthony Ellis scored Nevada’s only goal off an assist from Trent Stahl. Ellis had two shots on goal, Devin See put up three and Taylor Maiefski and Stahl finished with one apiece.


Senior keeper A.J. Strottman made seven saves in his final game in a Cubs’ uniform.


Ryan Meyers had two goals and one assist for a Garner-Hayfield/Ventura team that went on to defeat Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the substate finals on Saturday to qualify for state. Jonah Albertson and Connor Burke each scored one goal for Garner-Hayfield/Ventura versus Nevada.
