SPENCER - Nevada sophomore Dylan Sporrer is headed to state after placing fifth individually at the Class 3A district boys’ golf meet in Spencer May 18.

Sporrer shot a 76 over 18 holes to qualify. The top two golfers from non-qualifying teams at districts advanced to state, with Gilbert’s Tommy Doyle shooting a 74 as the other qualifier from Spencer.

“Dylan has played great all year,” Nevada head boys’ golf coach Ryan Brown said. “He was striking the ball confidently. He found his happy place. When Dylan maintains his confidence and gets that bounce in his step, he can play with anyone in the state.”

Sporrer shot a 37 out and a 39 in during the meet.

“This was an extremely difficult district — all five teams are ranked in the top 10 in the state,” Brown said. “We thought we had a chance if we put it together today. Sometimes the chips fall where they fall. We are a really good team and got beat by some other really, really good teams that played well today. Our players had a great season. We have group of really talented and hardworking young men. This was a great experience for our young team.”
