AMES - The Nevada boys’ golf team took third at the Coldwater Invitational, held at the Coldwater Golf Course in Ames April 27.

Nevada shot a 336 over 18 holes to come in just one stroke behind Ballard’s runner-up score. Gilbert won with a 319 and South Hamilton shot a 341 to place fourth.

“(It was) a rough day for us,” Nevada head boys’ golf coach Ryan Brown said. “We came off such a solid performance two days earlier at TCI, (so) it was disappointing to see a step backwards. We didn’t adjust well to course or the conditions. Gilbert is a good team and they outplayed us today. Ballard is solid year in and year out — they had few golfers put it together today and we didn’t. We are young and still trying to figure out who we are.”

Cam Shill placed fourth overall individual with an 81 to lead Nevada. Shill turned in nine-hole rounds of 44 and 37.

Dylan Sporrer, James Carsrud and Kyle Linder each shot an 85 to each place in the top 10 individually as the other golfers to deliver a counted score for Nevada.

Sporrer and Linder each had rounds of 42 and 43. Carsrud shot a 40 in and 45 out.

Harold Dobernecker and Jack Higgins each finished with an 88, Preston Shill shot a 90 and Thomas Crawford a 92 as the other varsity competitors for Nevada at the meet.
