NEVADA - The Nevada boys’ track team won three relays and the Cub girls picked up three silver medals at the Nevada Coed Invitational April 6 at Cub Stadium in Nevada.


The Nevada boys brought home gold in the sprint medley, 4 X 200-meter and 4 X 100 relay events. The Cub boys also won one silver and bronze medal apiece, scoring 74 points to place seventh in the team standings.


Jakob Strottman, Preston Cattanach, Brendan Sellberg and Joven Nelson won the sprint medley for the Nevada boys in one minute, 39. 52 seconds. The Cubs beat ADM by 1.26 seconds for the gold.


The same quartet won the 4 X 100 in :45.97. Gilbert took second in the race with a time of :46.07.


In the 4 X 200, Rodrigo Perez teamed up with Strottman, Nelson and Sellberg to take first in 1:34.88.The Cubs topped Gilbert by 1.24 seconds for gold in the race.


Sellberg also won silver individually in the 200 with a time of :23.41. Ballard’s Hunter Wright was the event champion with a time of :23.35.


Malachi Hornbuckle added a bronze medal in the 3,200 for Nevada with a time of 10:31.67. Om’Unique Wilkerson had the best showing in field events for the Cubs with a fourth-place jump of six feet even in the high jump.


Gilbert won the boys’ team championship with 167 points and Ballard was a distant second with 94.5 points. No throwing events took place at the meet due to poor field conditions.


In the girls’ competition, Nevada placed fifth with 43.20 points. Pella easily won with 141.5 points and Gilbert took second with 85.5 points.


The Cub girls won silver in the high jump, 100 and 4 X 100. They added a bronze in the shuttle hurdle relay and 1,500.


Kacie Rewerts took second in the high jump and third in the 1,500 for the Cub girls.


Rewerts peaked with a jump of 4-8 in the high jump to trail only Roland-Story’s Emily Stewart, who also jumped 4-8. In the 1,500, Rewerts ran a 5:30 flat to come in behind the 5:15.23 by Fort Dodge St. Edmond’s Abby Landwehr and 5:20.49 effort of Pella’s Tess Roorda.


Emily Plate won silver for Nevada in the 100. Plate crossed the finish line in :13.50 to edge Pella’s Metsje Miller for second behind the :12.85 run by Pella’s Emily Vos.


Plate also helped Nevada to a runner-up time of :54.61 in the 4 X 100. Pella won the event in :52.07.


Plate ran the second leg for the Cub girls in the 4 X 100. Jordan McKinney took the lead leg, and Samara and Caitlyn Sharp ran the final two.


The Cub shuttle hurdle team of the Sharp girls, Avery Mather and Amelea Jones won bronze in 1:19.79. Pella won in 1:11.62 and Gilbert took second in 1:14.79.

ADEL - The Nevada boys’ track team totaled five top-three finishes and the Cub girls won four medals at the Tiger Coed Invitational in Adel April 4.


The Nevada boys won three silver and two bronze medals. The Cub girls picked up two silver and bronze medals apiece.


The Cub boys took second in the sprint medley relay. Robert Edwards, Preston Cattanach, Jakob Strottman and Joven Nelson teamed to run a time of one minute, 39.46 seconds.


Nelson and Cattanach also placed runner-up and third respectively in the 100-meter dash. Nelson crossed the finish line in :11.64 and Cattanach finished in :11.86.


Malachi Hornbuckle took second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600 for Nevada. He ran a 10:31.33 in the 3,200 and 4:55.14 in the open mile.


Lexy Koudelka finished second in the discus and third in the shot put for the Nevada girls. Koudelka’s best throw in the discus was 107 feet, seven inches and she peaked with a toss of 32-4 in the shot.


Kacie Rewerts added a silver medal in the girls’ high jump. Rewerts’ top jump was 4-8.


The Nevada girls’ sprint medley team of Jordan McKinney, Emily Plate, Samara Sharp and Caitlyn Sharp won bronze. They finished the race in 2:02.75.
