To the editor:

As we near the mid-term election this year, I am struck by the opportunity we have to support Iowa’s natural resources when we cast our vote. Leadership means leading the way by your words and actions. Typically, Iowa’s natural resources get words of support from our elected officials; but often no action.

It is difficult to see how much will get done at the national level to solve any problem. Local is where it is at, especially if we hope to drive change and create a healthy environment for Iowans.

This year we have an opportunity to support and vote for a leader that is making a difference for the environment. No small effort must be made to understand the various natural resource issues, to listen to citizens and support their efforts to improve the environment, to serve on multiple watershed management boards, and to take the time to educate himself about water, soil health, and how to solve these problems moving forward at the local level.

I encourage you to vote for Rick Sanders for Story County Supervisor. He has worked hard to support conservation, our waters, and the land. It takes special local leadership to rise to these efforts and Rick has been and is willing to continue making that difference.
