To the editor:
Imagine a scenario in which you apply for a job, and despite not meeting the qualifications for that job, you are hired. Now imagine that, as a result of the lack of qualifications, you hire an outside firm to fulfill your duties at additional cost to your company. Seems silly, right? That’s exactly what will happen if Rob Sand is elected state auditor, and we — the taxpayers — will have to pay extra for an outside firm to do the job that is supposed to be done by the auditor’s office.
Mary Mosiman has done an outstanding job as our state auditor, fulfilling her duties with the utmost integrity and without partisan bias. Additionally, while Mr. Sand is not a CPA, Mary is. For almost 40 years, the Iowa Auditor’s office has been filled by a CPA, which allows the office to function as an auditing firm. Without a CPA leading it, audits would be outsourced to private firms, costing valuable taxpayer resources.
Since winning his party’s nomination, Sand has repeatedly attacked Mary’s integrity. I’ve known Mary for years, and there are few public servants who rise to the level of integrity that she does. She has performed her job exceedingly well, issuing over 1,000 Financial Statement Audit reports and over 100 Fraud Investigative Reports, which have identified $14 million in misused taxpayer dollars.
Mary Mosiman has proven herself worthy of another term as our auditor, with a record of strong, independent and nonpartisan leadership in the auditor’s office. Please join me in supporting her re-election.
