Violet Ester Storck, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away July 24th at Story County Medical Center in Nevada, Iowa. Violet was born to Lloyd and Hattie Anderson Schaeffer on January 18, 1919 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. She was from a large family and moved to Stanchfield, Minnesota as a young girl. She received her grade school diploma from Stanchfield and graduated from Braham High School in Braham, Minnesota. In 1937 she came to Pocahontas, Iowa to work. She was baptized and confirmed into St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. In 1938, Violet married Merlin Storck of Pocahontas. They farmed west of Poky, and she was employed at Hanson Bakery, Nickerson Pharmacy and Ben Franklin, respectively. She worked the longest at Ben Franklin from 1965-1989.

Violet had a long life and was 94 years old at the time of her death. For the last 2 ½ years she had been living with her daughter and son-in-law in Colo, Iowa. Survivors include: her daughter, Myrna (Larry) Johnson of Colo, Iowa; 3 grandchildren - Bruce (Sue) Cheek, David Cheek and Kim (Travis) Heidemann; 9 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren - all from Central Iowa. She also is survived by her siblings Hazel Lillicrop of San Antonio, TX; Julia Miller of Mt. Pleasant, MI; Calvin (Ann) Schaeffer of Stanchfield, MN; Gertrude Johnson of Merrilan, WI; Juanita (George) Christensen of San Antonio, TX; and Ramona Ferdin of Prior Lake, MN. Violet is preceded in death by her husband Merlin Storck, her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Violet’s funeral was held Saturday, July 27 at the Hope United Methodist Church in Pocahontas. Interment was at Summit Hill Cemetery.
