Our country lost one of its finest examples of brotherhood Friday night. Kaleb Christian Rierson died instantly in a car accident on Red Hill Road after 22 years of teaching us all how to live. After losing his father at age two, Kaleb only had time for things that matter. He liked his friends loyal, his opponents pinned, his lakes blue, his mountains tall, his bourbon straight, his Steelers strong, his country free, his family close, and his mother any way she pleased.

Kaleb’s funeral was held Wednesday at Ft. Bragg’s JFK Chapel, after which he was buried at the Ft. Bragg Cemetery. He will rest forever in the company of his father, so that they may know one another for the first time. Kaleb wouldn’t know what to do with flowers, so instead donations may be made in his name to the Special Operations Fund. But if you really want to honor him, gather your loved ones, look up at the nearest American flag, and remember the moments you’ve shared and those that fought to make those moments possible.
