Jean Evelyn Jones, age 82, of Nevada, Iowa and formerly of Waverly, died Sunday, June 9th, 2013, at her home from complications of cancer.
Jean was born on February 20, 1931, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Mamie (Kratchmer) Wylam. She was raised in Waverly and graduated from the Waverly High School in 1948. After graduating Jean worked for Lutheran Mutual Insurance in Waverly. On February 16, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Bob Jones in Waverly, Iowa. The couple started their family and Jean stayed home for a couple of years raising her children. In 1964, she went to work for Carnation in Waverly where she worked for 31 years retiring in 1995.
Jean was a member of 1st United Methodist Church in Nevada, past member of the Waverly Health Center Auxiliary, a current Member of Story County Hospital Auxiliary, and also volunteered at the Story County Animal Shelter. Jean’s enjoyments included fishing trips to Minnesota, bowling, golfing, needle point, and arts & crafts. What she enjoyed most, however, was her family, especially her grand children, attending many of their sporting events.
Jean’s memory is honored by: her three children, Diane (Steven) Flournoy of Richmond, VA, Doug (Cindy) Jones, of Nevada, IA, and Debra Jones of Nevada, IA; six grandchildren, Sean Flournoy, Todd Flournoy, Colin Jones, Dana Cornish, Evan Jones, and Emily Jones; six great-grandchildren, Harrison Hart, Larrissa Flournoy, Kymberli Jones, Caleb Jones, Kylie Jones, and Madeline Cornish; a sister, Davidene Litterer of Waverly; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Bob in 1978; and two brothers, LaVerne and Duane Wylam.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will follow at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly.
