Marcelline Marie Osmundson was born on October 28, 1936 near Fertile, Iowa to Nels and Ruth (Johnson) Oakland. She graduated from Fertile High School in 1954 and attended Waldorf College, majoring in Elementary Education. Marcie continued her education at Drake, University of Oslo in Norway and Iowa State University, earning three degrees in Business and Finance, Higher Education and Curriculum and Instruction.
She taught at Radcliffe, Parkersburg, Council Bluffs and Rockford. Marcie married Robert (Oz) Osmundson on August 22, 1964 in Memphis, TN and made their home in Radcliffe, Iowa. After she married Oz, Marcie taught middle school in Nevada for 35 years. She produced musicals in Nevada from 1964 to 1998. After retiring from Nevada Public School System, Marcie joined Iowa State University staff as the Director of America Reads/America Counts program. Marcie also was an educational consultant for Tero International, Inc. in West Des Moines.
In Marcie’s spare time, she dedicated countless hours into Rag Time in Randall. She loved storytelling, believing it was almost a lost art. Marcie also spent many hours traveling to various nursing homes to visit with the residents.
Marcie passed away January 21, 2018, at Bethany Manor in Story City at the age of 81.
She is survived by a special nephew Hutch (Brenda) Pederson, several nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law Bill Wright.
Marcie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Oz on April 17, 1986, sisters Emelia Pederson, Norma Sprau, and IvaDell Wright, brothers-in-law Bob Pederson and Sterling Sprau, nephew Kurt Sprau, and great nephew Sam Pederson.
Memorial services will be Friday May 11, 2018, at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marcie’s honor can be made to Nevada High School Drama Club.
