Beverly Ann Tjelmeland was born Dec. 13th, 1936, on her parent’s small farm near McCallsburg, Iowa. Beverly was the 9th child born to Martin and Ora. Her siblings were Eugene, Arlette, Harlan, Myron, Ione, Clifford, Kenny, and Lester. Beverly married the love of her life, William Howard Shalley, on Sept. 20th, 1953. They had four children, William, Kevin, Lori, and Don.

Beverly worked several cashier’s jobs while her kids were in school. Later she worked as a sales rep for the Best Western Starlight Inn and the Midwestern Hearing Center, both in Ames, IA.

Beverly loved her big family, wide circle of friends and small-town community. They helped her and Bill deal with the loss to illness of their son Kevin in 1961, and their daughter Lori, killed by a drunk driver in 1986.

Beverly and Bill moved to Mesa, AZ in 1997. Her husband Bill passed due to illness in March of 2000. Complications after surgery to remove a cancerous growth from her lung took her home to her husband and children, Kevin and Lori. Beverly was surrounded by family and friends as she passed. “Beverly was one of the kindest, most caring, loving and compassionate persons I know. She never knew a stranger and would do anything for you. She dearly loved her family and friends and will be truly missed by all. A beautiful angel left the earth today and entered Heaven to be with her husband and children.” — Mary Glenski Shalley, daughter-in-law
