Roy “Kent” Morton, 72, of Florida, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017.
Born April 26, 1945, in Bowen, Illinois, he was the son of Carlin and Luella Morton. He was married to his wife, Paula, for 48 years.
Mr. Morton had a 40-year career as a journalist, working at WCAZ radio station in Carthage, Illinois, in high school, reporting for Armed Forces Radio, and in a variety of positions, reporter, anchor, producer and manager at television stations in Iowa, Alabama and Florida.
He grew up around farming with his parents and uncles, operating the family business, Morton Seed Co. He was a 1963 graduate of Bowen High School and a graduate of the University of Missouri. His love for performing and storytelling had led to him acting in Toby and Suzie’s regional traveling variety show.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jennifer Roberts; two grandchildren; and one brother, Bruce Morton of Bowen.
A visitation and funeral service are pending at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Bowen. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery with a reception following at the church.
Memorials have been established for Myositis Association and Living Faith United Methodist Church.
