We lost our most wonderful senior center supporter when Edward Glenn "Bud" Sampson passed away last Friday. Glenn was the driving force behind the need for a new senior center in Nevada. After the first discussion meeting, in April of 2008, he joined the newly formed board and started making calls on businesses and individuals to raise the money. Along with many others, he worked tirelessly for two years to get the funds needed to start the project in August of 2010. I remember Glenn telling me that summer that he had to give it up because his doctor had said, "Remember Glenn, you are 86 not 68." We finished raising the funds that fall so that by the completion date of Jan. 1, 2011 we had enough money to open our Center with no debt on the building. I can still see that big smile on Glenn’s face when we hosted the Grand Opening.

The building is now actually owned by the city and can be rented by the public, on nights and weekends, by calling the city hall 382-5466. Nevada’s Senior Citizens and guests have free use of the building each day from 9-4 and may also use it free of charge for our special events.

We will miss our "soft spoken" Glenn at the Center, but will always be thankful that he put in so much time and effort to get us this lovely building.
