On July 27, 2012, the City acquired the former Minsky’s Pizza building. Demolition, including asbestos removal, parking lot removal, utilities abandoned, backfill, topsoil and seeding took place exactly one month later.
At their Dec. 5 session, the City requested the Leadership Nevada class to plan for improvements on the particular site. The project was introduced to the 15 participants, who were divided into three groups. In order to implement a plan, the City asked for each group to provide a vision, including data collection, project description, features, signage, maintenance plan, aesthetics, seating, visibilit and landscaping. The group was also asked to provide a budget, including probable costs, potential grants and fundraising ideas. In the end, the City would like to see three conceptual designs.
The City would like your input and feedback upon review of all conceptual designs that will be presented by each Leadership Nevada group the night of their graduation on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at Gates Hall.
"Many Leadership Nevada projects have come to fruition and we wanted to ask the Leadership Nevada participants to provide some concepts that the community can provide their input and the City could execute, stated Mayor Lynn Lathrop.
Comment card will be collected at the end of the presentations from those attending graduation. A buffet dinner, cake and refreshments will be served at a cost of $15 per person. Please call Chamber Director Lynn Scarlett at 382-6538 to make your reservation by April 1.
The City Council could discuss the project as early as May 12. A proposed timeline shows final plans could be set for approval in July, with bid approval and start of construction in August. "We are thrilled that a project could potentially be completed at this site by the end of this year," added Mayor Lathrop.
