The Workspace at the Iowa State Memorial Union has a number of classes starting the last half of March. Classes include:
Metal Clay and Fused Glass Pendants - Rhonda Scott
Create your own beautiful focal piece using glass fusing techniques—and show it off in a custom fine silver setting. Learn basic techniques for glass fusing and metal clay. Precious Metal Clay (PMC) looks and feels like clay, and after firing, it is 99.9% pure silver.

Slow, smooth and sultry….Shiara has created a fluid, flowing and passionate dance routine. Showcase your sensual side!

Silver Rings - Terrie Hoefer
Saw, file, and solder sterling silver sheet to make a personalized ring just for you. Start with a ring in copper and make a second one in sterling silver. Embellish your ring with stamps and texture and learn to polish to a high shine.

Re-Upholstery - Dan Neubauer
Fix up an old stool or simple chair and customize it for your space. Dan will work with students on how to deconstruct and then reconstruct your piece including choosing the correct fabric. Note this is a very basic class – no sofas, armchairs, etc.

Embroidery - Judith Lemish
After you learn the basic stitches for embroidery you can add design and personalize anything made from fabric. Practice on your choice of a tote bag, waist apron or tea towel. Choose from traditional to modern designs, or create your own.

Paint Your Own Pottery: Flower Pots, Bunnies and Chicks
Choose and paint cute stuff for spring decorating or flower planting. Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend plus the cost of the bisque you select. Pottery will be fired within a week for you to pick up. Pre-registration with payment is not required but a call to reserve a spot is recommended.
Friday, March 28 from 5 – 8pm
Miniature Book Making - Sara Merritt
Using recycled papers and fabrics, we will play with traditional methods of bookbinding to create miniature handmade books. Typically smaller than 6 inches, these mini treasures can be used as pocket sketchbooks, tiny scrapbooks, haiku poetry journals, hidden diaries, or even tomes for gnomes. Leave class with the skllls to make larger books on your own.

Zendoodle Workshop - Sara Merritt
Do you scribble patterns on notepads or junk mail? Does it relax you to doodle during class or in meetings? If so, you are already on your way to creating artful meditation. Whether you are new to this art form or you’ve been doing it for years, we will explore a few structured methods so you can begin creating beautiful patterns anytime, anywhere, to achieve relaxation and mindfulness, or as an entry point to a larger work of art.
