The sale of Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada became final last week as Cynthia Ryan-McLain turned over the longtime family business to new owners, Scott and Connie Huffman of Ida Grove.
The Huffmans come to Nevada with more than 30 years of experience in the funeral business. They have owned and operated funeral homes in Ida Grove, Battle Creek, Odebolt and Sac City since 1997. Scott is a licensed funeral director, and Connie will serve as office manager and pre-arrangement counselor.
The Huffmans say the name of their business will now revert back to what its name was in 1943 - Ryan Funeral Home.
The year 1943 is significant to the business, as that is when the first of three generations of the Ryan family came to own the funeral home. The first owners in the family were Cynthia Ryan-McLain’s grandparents, C.A. and Carolyn Ryan. The business then continued in the family with Cynthia’s father, Chet Ryan, until his untimely death at age 68 in 1992. Cynthia, who had just graduated from mortuary school, took over the family business at that time and has been a fixture in Nevada and the surrounding communities ever since.
"Honoring my father’s and grandparents’ legacy with quality funeral service has been the primary focus of my career," Cynthia said. "I cherish the confidence with which I have been entrusted over the years and truly treasure the relationships formed with the families I have served."
The Huffmans are parents of three grown children, who live with their families in the Central Iowa area. Ownership of Ryan Funeral Home at Nevada brings the couple closer to their children.
"Knowing Cynthia and the outstanding service she and her family have provided to this community provided the impetus necessary for us to relocate," they stated in a press release. "We wish Cynthia all the best in retirement and will strive to maintain the fine tradition of funeral service to which she and her family have been dedicated for so many years."
