There is money in those used tires coming off the Nevada FFA tractor projects.
The numbers - 13.6x38, 18.4x34, 12.4x24 - are not significant to most people, unless you need a good used tractor tire. Then there is value.
Fortunately, Colfax Tractor Parts has been very generous in purchasing the FFA’s used tires. In early July, a set was sold for $400, and recently some other used tires were delivered for $500.
"This adds value to the existing projects," said Kevin Cooper, Nevada High School Ag Ed instructor and FFA advisor. If tires cannot be sold, a large rear tractor tire cost $38 apiece to dispose of. "This activity fits perfectly into our four R’s: reuse, recycle, rethink and reduce," added Cooper.
Colfax Tractor parts also donated a new seat for the FFA’s Ford 1900 project that otherwise would have cost over $90.
