Months of hard work, capital investment, training and attention to detail paid off for Nevada FFA members at the 2014 Iowa State Fair. In addition, Ashley Murphy, Grace Dutton, Ashten Arnaud, Austin Carolus and Savannah Kyle served as members of the state fair FFA grandstand usher group, volunteering hundreds of hours at the fair to serve others. On Sunday, Aug. 10, 24 Nevada FFA members worked a six-hour shift the Iowa Pork Producers stand, preparing and serving pork products. Five members volunteered at the Little Hands on the Farm demonstration on Sunday, Aug. 10. Komer Johnson donated hauling of the ag mechanics tractors. Nevada FFA had the ag mechanics lab display in the Agriculture Building for public viewing during the entire fair.

FFA Swine Division

Cory Sampson: Champion Purebred Duroc breeding gilt, Reserve Supreme Purebred breeding gilt, Reserve Champion Duroc market hog, second place commercial gilt, also, a third place lightweight market hog purple, and several other high placing market hogs, winning purples and blues.

FFA Market and Breeding Sheep

Maddie Henry exhibited two blue ribbon market wether lambs, Jack Henry exhibited a ninth place commercial ewe. Austin Doty won a fourth place purple ribbon with his spotted commercial ewe lamb. Jack Henry won a showmanship award.

FFA Horticulture

Celsey Moody won a fourth place and sixth place with onion entries.

FFA Ag Mechanics

Nevada FFA won Reserve Champion Restored Tractor in the Group Entry Class with a Massey Ferguson 180 Diesel tractor.
