Eleven Nevada High School agriculture students and FFA members and their advisor Kevin Cooper attended the 86th National FFA Convention held in Louisville,Ky., Oct. 30-Nov. 2. The students traveled by charter bus, which was shared with three other high school FFA chapters.
The group boarded the bus at 4 a.m. and proceeded to Louisville for the FFA convention with opening session being held in Freedom Hall. Rick Petino, head basketball coach at the University of Louisville, was the inspirational keynote speaker. On Thursday morning the group traveled to Frankfort for a tour of the historic Buffalo Trace Distillery. The students attended a workshop on super teams unite where participants learn to value their own and others unique strengths through the lens of teamwork. On Friday, students toured the famous Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. Horses were on the track in warm ups and also in the stables. The students also visited the Churchill Downs Museum and theater. The charter bus included a DVD player with multiple screens for students to enjoy on the bus ride commuting. Nevada FFA members will present their trip to the school board meeting on Monday, Nov. 25.
