Merlin R. "Johnny" Johnson of Nevada passed away Monday, December 9th, 2013.
Johnny was born July 2, 1924 to John and Bessie (Erickson) Johnson in Granada, MN. He attended school at Swea City, IA. Johnny was in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the Pacific. After the war, he farmed with his father for a while. Then he started work at Iowa Road Builders for over 30 years in Fairmont, MN and Des Moines, IA. For the next ten years, he was the general manager at Manatt’s in Ames, IA.
In 1976 he married Marlys Boetel of Nevada, IA. After retiring in 1990 they spent their winters in McAllen, TX at the Adobe Wells Park golfing, playing cards and enjoying the warm weather.
Those left to honor his memory is his wife, Marlys of Nevada, IA; his sons Mike Boetel and Mark Boetel of Nevada, IA, Calvin (Joni) of Nilicek, AK, Raymond (Vicki) of Altoona, IA and Randy of Ames, IA. His daughters; Pamela (Charlie) Davis and Patty Rewerts of Nevada, IA, Jacci (Lynn) Willson of Eldora, IA, Pamela (Steve) Waters of Des Moines, IA and Cindy Waters of Altoona, IA; his sister Kaye (David) Salmi of Crystal Lake, IL; 14 grandchildren and 6 1/2 great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, ten siblings and one grandson.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Family will greet friends two hours prior to the service.
