Kelli Jo Springer was sworn in as a Nevada Police officer by Mayor Lynn Lathrop at the City Council meeting Monday, pledging to uphold the Constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Iowa.
Springer, a Cumming native, began college with the intention of becoming an athletic training major while competing in the 200 meters, 400 meters, 4 x 400 meter relay and the high jump for the Coe College track and field team. She became interested in police work after riding along with police officers who were on patrol, and transferred to Iowa State University, where she became a community service officer. Springer will graduate with a degree in criminal justice in May.
Springer’s immediate family, grandparents and several friends were in attendance for the occasion.
"I’m looking forward to getting to know the [Nevada] community and making a difference," said Springer. "If I can make a difference somewhere, it’s worth it."
