Nevada emergency personnel were called out at 7 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 25) for downed wires in the middle of Lincoln Highway at the intersection of 10th Street.
According to Fire Chief Dana Wipperman, a semi tractor trailer clipped the utility pole that serves the overhead red stop light at that corner. The driver then drove away.
"We used our "Hot Stick" to determine the wire was live," Wipperman said. Alliant Energy was called to the scene to replace the pole and restring the overhead electrical line and stop light.
The incident caused Lincoln Highway to be closed for most of the morning, as police blocked the streets and alleys within one block of the area.
The Nevada Police Department is working with witnesses to identify the truck and driver.
