Q: I understand this is National Farm to School Month. In what way is the BCSD Food Service program supporting the concept of Farm to School?


A: October is National Farm to School Month, a time to celebrate the connections happening all over the country between children and local food. From taste tests in the cafeteria and nutrition education activities in the classroom, to farm visits and school garden harvest parties, schools, early care and education sites, farms, communities and organizations in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and U.S. Territories join in the celebration. Boone Community School District is participating in Iowa Local Foods day on Thursday Oct. 11. Iowa local food day is a celebration of Iowa farmers and local foods during National Farm to School month.This annual event will bring together all sectors of Farm to School unifying the state around the success of our farms, children and schools.


The BCSD menu for the Local Food Day on Thursday, Oct. 11 will be :
