Thanks to a $6,000 community grant from the Story County Community Foundation (SCCF), the Veterans Memorial Ballfield committee in Zearing has been able to upgrade its concessions area this year. Improvements included a new refrigerator, a new freezer, three new doors for the concession building and concrete walks.

Al Hermanson, SCCF advisory board member, reviewed improvements with Mayor Martin Herr and City Clerk Karen Davis. Davis said, “We are delighted to have the support of the SCCF grant. The youth leagues and fans who use the field will be excited next season when they see all improvements.”

The ballfield is actually a pair of baseball/softball fields that are used by area youth for the NESCO Parks and Rec program, as well as the North Story County Recreation League. The fields welcome youth from area communities who engage in sports.

SCCF awards community grants of up to $6,000 each year; 2018 awards will be announced in November. More information on SCCF grants is available at www.storycountyfoundation.org.
