Story Theater Company (STC) kicks off its 2018-19 season with a production of “Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures,” by Kent R. Brown.

The show dates are Oct. 18 and 19 at 7 p.m., and Oct. 20 and 21 at 2 p.m. All performances will be in STC’s black box theater at 615 S. Dayton Ave., Suite 133, Ames.

Based on the book by Lois Lowry, Gooney Bird Greene zooms in on the little town of Watertower in the fall. The local children, listless and bored, are not excited to be back in school. Suddenly, the classroom door bursts open and the colorful and fun Gooney Bird appears. She helps awaken her new friends’ imaginations to cast themselves as heroes in their own tales of discovery.

The cast of talented, young actors from Ames and the surrounding areas will delight audiences with the exciting tale of Gooney Bird Greene.

Tickets for the show are $8 through Oct. 17. Beginning Oct. 18, tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children, students and seniors. Tickets can be obtained through the STC website at www.storytheatercompany.org/tickets. While tickets can also be purchased at the door, they are subject to availability.

STC’s production of Gooney Bird Greene is sponsored by Hastings, Gartin and Boettger, LLP. This program is funded in part by local option tax funds provided by the City of Ames through the Commission on the Arts. The show is directed by Julia VanDyk
