Colo United Methodist Church, 602 Fourth St., will host award-winning pianist John Nilsen on Thursday, Oct. 18, when he will perform a concert that starts at 7 p.m.

Nilsen was born in Seattle, Wash., in 1956, but four years later his family relocated to Portland, Ore., and he still resides in Oregon.

He began studying classical piano from his mother at age 6, began playing guitar at age 14 and attended college at Southern Oregon College, where he was a leader in the performing arts and has been honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Nilsen plays piano, guitar and banjo and is also a songwriter, lyricist and vocalist. He’s performed in Europe, Asia and all 50 states. Two-hundred-and-fifty of his compositions have received BMI royalties worldwide.

The public is invited to come to hear him perform on Oct. 18. A free-will donation will be collected.
