Local McDonald’s® Owner/Operator Kevin O’Brien and The O’Brien Organization have acquired Ames, Boone, Carroll, Nevada & Story City McDonald’s restaurants effective Aug. 1.


The O’Brien Organization has owned and operated McDonald’s restaurants in Eastern Iowa since 1958 and is dedicated to hiring outstanding people, building and maintaining the best restaurants and delivering a gold standard experience for its customers. The O’Brien Organization now operates 18 McDonald’s restaurants in Iowa, while employing over 1,000 hard-working Iowans.


“It’s an honor to purchase these restaurants from Jim and Karen Baker, whom I’ve been business and personal friends with for over 25 years.” said Kevin O’Brien, Mcdonald’s owner/operator. “I’m proud that they have chosen to pass the torch to me and my organization. As a second-generation owner/operator, Kevin O’Brien has spent his entire life in the McDonald’s system. His parents opened their first location on Riverside Drive in Iowa City in 1958 and his mother, Dorothy O’Brien, was one of the first women franchisees in the McDonald’s system. His restaurants are consistently acknowledged for their outstanding customer service achievements, superb operations and exceptional employee development. Kevin is the vice president of the National Leadership Council of McDonald’s Owner/Operators, he helps to sponsor teams that develop new McDonald’s food concepts and works with government relations and communications.
