In reference to the City Council story that shared information about the town’s north park and its naming, Maxine Harms, president of the Nevada Historical Society, wished to clarify a few points.

Harms said the historical society has been advocating on the side of history, which the organization feels is its mission — protecting the historical gifts and happenings that have formed the community from its earliest years.

She said the historical society does not wish to be in a dispute. They have advocated for history and are sitting back to let the city make its decision on how the park is named and the sign is printed. The society is advocating the memorial be a way of explaining how Julia Romaine Walker and John Hattery have both contributed to the park system. The Nevada Historical Society will accept what the city decides on the matter.
