Story County Trails Advisory Committee meeting
The Story County Trails Advisory Committee invites the public to attend its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 28, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Story County Conservation Center at McFarland Park (56461 180th St.) northeast of Ames.
If you enjoy biking, hiking, horseback riding or canoeing in Story County, you are invited to attend the meeting. Come to share your ideas or consider volunteering your time to improve Story County Conservation’s many trail systems.
Story County Conservation Partners meeting
Story County Conservation invites the public to attend its Partners advisory committee meeting on Thursday, July 5, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Story County Conservation Center at McFarland Park (56461 180th S.) northeast of Ames. Partners are community members who want to help SCC achieve its mission of enhancing the quality of life for all citizens of the county.
Beginning this month, Partners agendas will be available on www.storycountyconservation.org the Monday prior to each meeting. Subsequent meeting minutes will be available as well. Citizens can subscribe to receive notifications when agendas and minutes are posted.
Hike off the Trail
Explore a new side of Jennett Heritage Area (62321 280th St., Nevada) at an Off-Trail Trek on Sunday, July 8, from 10–11:30 a.m.
Hike off the trail with a naturalist and get a new perspective on your parks. Bring your curiosity as we explore and adventure! We’ll hike the prairie and trek at the edge of wetland and creek. Prepare to hike over rough – possibly hilly or muddy – terrain and through vegetation. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants.
This hike is free, but registration is required by 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 5. Registration is available at www.storycountyconservation.org or by calling our office at 515-232-2516 (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday).
