A Jasper County man was arrested Monday after police said he threatened to kill the mother of his child and her family.

Jake William Waterhouse, 23, of Monroe, is charged with first-degree harassment.

According to Nevada Police Chief Ricardo Martinez, officers received a call from a woman on Jan. 14 that she was being harassed by an ex-boyfriend in text messages. Martinez said that officers spoke to Waterhouse over the phone, and that Waterhouse said the incident started over an argument about custody of their child.

Martinez said that Waterhouse and the victim had been broken up for several months during the time of the threats.

Martinez said that after Waterhouse finished speaking to police, he began texting the woman again, and continued to threaten her. A warrant was filed for Waterhouse’s arrest, and after being picked up by Jasper County officials, Waterhouse was transported to the Story County Jail Monday afternoon.

Waterhouse was being held late Monday without bond.
