Linda Schroeder, left, is coordinator of the library book donations for the Story County Master Gardener Association. Schroeder is shown here making the donation of this year’s new books to the Nevada Public Library, where Linda Wright receives them. Schroeder said the Master Gardeners’ mission is education, so donating both children’s and adult books to the county’s 11 public libraries is part of achieving that mission. An increase in funds for these donations also makes is possible for the Master Gardeners to give books to a satellite library center in Gilbert this year. Wright said the group always gives the libraries great books — the book donations are the same for each library. One of the most intriguing books this year, Schroeder believes, is the children’s book, “Secrets of the Vegetable Garden,” which is a “shine-a-light book,” meaning, as Schroeder explained, that if you hold it up to the light, you will see more wonderful elements in the illustrations.
