The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is hosting an entrepreneurship training session for veterans, National Guard members, Reservists and their spouses on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Iowa State University Memorial Union in Ames.
Boots to Business: Reboot is a free session that introduces veterans to the fundamentals of business ownership and leads participants through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and developing a business plan. Hosted by SBA and the Iowa State University Veterans Center, it introduces participants to Iowa’s key small business resource network – SBA, SCORE, the Women’s Business Center, America’s SBDC - Iowa (the Small Business Development Centers) and the Veteran’s Business Outreach Centers.
Boots to Business: Reboot is a two-step training program that provides participants an overview of business ownership as a career vocation, an outline and knowledge on the components of a business plan, a practical exercise in opportunity recognition, and an introduction to available public and private sector resources.
Step one is the Introduction to Entrepreneurship course eligible to veterans of all eras, Service members (including members of the National Guard and Reserves) and their spouses. This course is instructed by SBA and its partners, who are skilled business advisors.
This session will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Cardinal Room of the Memorial Union at Iowa State University, 2229 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50011. The training session is free and while snacks will be provided, lunch will be on your own.
Step two is the follow-on Foundations of Entrepreneurship course instructed by a consortium of professors and skilled business advisors from the SBA Network. Please email the team at email@example.com if you’ve already attended an in-person Boots to Business class, and wish to sign-up for an online course.
After completing Boots to Business: Reboot, participants will have the tools and knowledge they need to identify a business opportunity, draft a business plan, connect with local resources and launch their small business.
