Beginning Soap-making Workshop
Learn to make quality, handmade soap from scratch (with no synthetic bases) using the cold-process method. On Monday, Sept. 25, from 6-8 p.m., Jan Verploeg will take participants through the step-by-by-step process — from the selection of oils, colorants, fragrances and equipment to calculating lye amounts. Leave class with about 1.5 pounds of soap worth $35. Cost is $45 for the public, $35 for those with ISU. The class is open to those age 16 and up. Register at midwestix.com.
Everyone is welcome to come on Sept. 29 to the American Legion Auxiliary chicken and noodle supper with homemade desserts. Serving time is 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the William F. Ball American Legion on Sixth Street. Adults are $8 and children $4. Profits help with Girls State, general fund, scholarships and quilts for our veterans. Come to the M-Shop of the Iowa State Memorial Union on Saturday, Sept. 30, for a psych rock/indie folk performance by Sun Seeker. Sun Seeker has drawn applause for their unhurried breed of Cosmic American Music and with Biddeford, their long-awaited debut EP, the Nashville-based band more than affirm their promise. Their performance starts at 8 p.m., with tickets at $10 for the public, $8 for those with an Iowa State ID.
