Colo United Methodist Church celebrated its 150th year on Sunday, Sept. 12. Over 170 people gathered for the church service and commemorative program that followed. Current pastor, Douglas Harding, led the service and District Superintendent Reverend Dr. Harlan Gillespie was the guest speaker. Dorothy Cerka, Jeslyn Jackson, Amy Edel and Brad Snodgrass all provided special music. Colo UMC’s youth group gave an encore presentation of their “Church Ladies” skit.

Three former CUMC pastors were in attendance — Pastors James Louk, Russ Burnett and Lewis Flanigan all shared memories with the audience.

The church’s oldest living member, Mary Presnall, appeared in a video greeting; as did United Methodist Bishop Laurie Haller.

Susan McKinney recognized the church’s past accompanists, Mildred Brinkman and Margaret Schnur, and gave special recognition to the current pianist and choir director, Stacie Hostetler.

Bibles were presented to five excited third-graders by Pastor Harding and Rev. Gillespie. Hope Heidemann, Landyn Short, Ethan and Natalie Harnage, and Josie Robinson all received their first Bibles on Sunday.

A hearty pork loin dinner was provided between the two services by the tireless Colo Fire and Rescue Department.
