Paint Your Own Pottery: Snack Bowls
Eat, sleep, snack, repeat! A Paint Your Own Pottery class is offered Friday, Sept. 15, from 4-8 p.m. at the Workspace of ISU Memorial Union will have bowls for every snack size, from small dishes to extra-large bowls. The studio fee is $4 for those with ISU and $5 for the public to attend, plus the cost of the bisque you select. This class is open to all ages, if accompanied by an adult.
Country singer at M-Shop
Shueyville, Iowa, native Hailey Whitters will perform this Saturday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. at the M-Shop of the Iowa State Memorial Union. Whitters released her debut album Black Sheep in late 2015. Features in No Depression and The Bluegrass Situation, a Daytrotter Session, several nods on 2016 artists-to-watch lists and other praise have helped build the fast-rising country artist’s large fan base. Whitters additionally landed two cuts on Martina McBride’s album, Reckless, in 2016 and spent the latter half of the year touring on McBride’s Love Unleashed Tour. She also penned Little Big Town’s song, “Happy People,” featured on their 2017 album The Breaker. Tickets are $10 ($8 w/ ISU Student ID).
Artist to give free performance
Spoken word artist Gabriela Garcia Medina will perform at Iowa State University on Sunday, Sept. 17. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. event at the Maintenance Shop in the Memorial Union. Admission is free and open to the public. Medina has enjoyed a career as a spoken word artist since 2006. She has been writing professionally since 2005 and has performed her spoken word poetry at universities and colleges across the United States for over a decade. Her one-woman show was the most booked act in the national college market from 2007 through 2011.
‘Using Facebook for Genealogy: Education, Collaboration, Connection’
Even though great-great-great-grandmother did not use a computer, most likely her descendants do. Have you tapped into the resources available to you through social media? This presentation will describe ways to use Facebook as another tool in your research tool box. Privacy, security, and results will be discussed.
