Des Moines County Republicans' Steak Fry Saturday brings lieutenant governor, state auditor to Burlington

The Des Moines County Republicans will host their annual Steak Fry fundraiser this weekend with headline speakers Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg and State Auditor Mary Mosiman.

The event will take place 6 p.m. Saturday at the Port of Burlington.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling party chairman Terry Davis at (319) 850-2061.

Gregg, a former state public defender, was appointed acting lieutenant governor by Gov. Kim Reynolds May 25.

Because Reynolds succeeded former Gov. Terry Branstad in the midst of his term, whether she could appoint a lieutenant governor was called into question by Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller.

In a statement released by Reynolds following Gregg's appointment, the governor said he would fulfill all duties of the lieutenant governor's office but would not be in the line of succession.

In the event Reynolds leaves office before her term expires in November 2018, Iowa Senate President Jack Whitver would become governor.

Mosiman was appointed by Branstad as state auditor in May 2013.

As auditor, Mosiman is tasked with overseeing the government's finances and making sure taxpayer funds are used lawfully.
