Linda Wendt, RN, CPHQ, is the newest member of the Story Medical senior leadership team. Linda started as chief nursing officer (CNO) in July and comes to Story Medical after most recently serving as executive director of Payor Strategies at UnityPoint Clinic. She says she is excited about the opportunity to lead nursing at Story Medical.

“I was impressed with the people, the place and the vision for the future,” Wendt says about her first impressions of Story Medical during the interview process. “There are so many great pieces in place to position Story Medical for continued success. It is exciting to think of all the potential moving forward.”

As CNO, Wendt will oversee the nursing and clinical functions across the Story Medical network, including inpatient, outpatient and Senior Care services. She has an extensive background in quality management and has served both as an RN and in various director- and executive-level positions during two decades in health care.

Wendt has an undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh, an Associate degree in Nursing from DMACC and is completing a Masters Degree in healthcare administration at Des Moines University.

She says her priority is continuing to develop an environment where coordinating the care of our patients is of paramount importance.

“Strong nursing and clinical departments are vital for a small hospital like Story Medical,” Wendt says. “We must function as one team with diverse talents in each nursing, clinic and senior care area of the hospital. We often rely on each other to help out across clinical areas and departments when needed.

“Having nursing and clinical staff that is highly skilled and flexible,” she continues, “allows us to ensure our patients’ needs are always met.”

Linda and husband, Scott, have lived in the same home on Lincoln Highway for almost 20 years. They have five children—three of them adopted from Russia.
