Troopers release name of Burlington couple injured in motorcycle accident.
The Illinois State Patrol said two people seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on the U.S. 34 eastbound exit ramp to Gulfport Tuesday afternoon are Burlington residents.
The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Thomas Lloyd Buckallew, 47. His passenger was Michele L. Buckallew, 45, according to the patrol's accident report.
Thomas Buckallew was transported by Air Evac helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. His wife was transported by a Burlington Fire Department ambulance to Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Their conditions were not released Wednesday. Neither person was wearing a helmet, according to the report.
Thomas Buckallew was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The couple was injured when their 2002 Kawasaki left the roadway as it exited eastbound U.S. 34 and crashed into a grove of trees. Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle.
The accident occurred about 1:45 p.m.
