This year’s Story County Blast Back to School Fair will be on Aug. 11, presented by Storey Kenworthy.
The event is free and will take place at Ames Middle School from 2-6 p.m. Over 700 youth and their families are expected to participate and receive basic school supplies, as well as the necessary health, vision and dental screenings on this day. Students attending any Story County School and entering grades Kindergarten through 12 th grade, can pick up supplies. All students must be accompanied by an adult (18 or older).
Volunteers from local agencies, area employers and the community are going to hand out the supplies and share the enthusiasm for another school year about to start. In addition, carnival games, Zap Laser Tag, the Ames Public Library and light snacks will be available to add even more fun to the day. Local groups and businesses are collecting the thousands of items needed to start the school year off on the right foot. Supplies can be donated and dropped off at the following locations in Ames: First National Bank Branches, US Bank Branches, Midwest Heritage Bank (Lincoln Way Hy-Vee), the Volunteer Center of Story County or Storey Kenworthy.
New this year, supplies will also be collected at the Rummage RAMPAGE, July 28-Aug. 2 at the Intermodal Facility, 129 Hayward, in Campustown. Groups interested in sponsoring one or more items, can contact Anne Owens, at 515-268-5323 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. A fundraiser for the event was held at Texas Roadhouse, in Ames, on July 25, with a portion of the sales that night being directed to the event.
