Fundraiser for veterans’ park painting
The American Legion Auxiliary is having a fundraiser supper at the Legion Hall on Friday, July 28. Funds brought in that evening will help support repair to the damaged flag painting, created by Mitzi Alexander two years ago and recently vandalized at Hattery Park (also known as North Park and Walker Park). Serving will begin at 5 and go through 7:30, and the menu features pork tenderloin sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans and desserts. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children, or give more if you wish to do so for this good cause. Everyone in the community is invited to come and support this project.
Sweet Corn Feed in the Burg
It is hard to believe that it is that time again; the 33rd annual McCallsburg Lions Sweet Corn and Bologna Feed will be held on Monday, July 31, at the McCallsburg American Legion, from 4:30–7 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. We will be serving all-you-can-eat sweet corn, bologna, cole slaw, watermelon, desserts and drinks.
From 7–8:30 p.m., we will play bingo and at 8:30, we will have the raffle drawing. Tickets for the raffle are only $1 and you don’t have to be present to win. The prizes are: First - $200, second - $100, third and fourth - $50. Last year the McCallsburg Lions raised about $2,500 — all of the proceeds go back to the Zearing and McCallsburg communities by supporting various projects and individuals.
Donations of used eyeglasses are gladly accepted!
Art Lending Open House
The Iowa State Memorial Union is hosting the annual Art Lending Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m.-noon. The open house will be held in the Browsing Library on the first floor of the MU.
The Art Lending collection includes about 275 framed posters, prints and paintings, including a number of brand-new pieces for 2017. Selections from the art-for-rent collection may be viewed during the open house, and are available for rent for a half year or full year. Rentals typically range from $10 to $25 per year, and patrons may take selected pieces with them that day.
The Art Lending program offers an inexpensive way to improve your home or office, and is perfect for anyone wanting to enhance their space. Proceeds from rentals directly support art programs at the Memorial Union.
The Memorial Union is located at 2229 Lincoln Way on the ISU campus in Ames. For more information, contact Letitia Kenemer at 515-294-0971 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
