The Nevada Public library is hosting its 2017 Summer Reading Program June 12 through July 21. We have added a few new performers. We have also made two of the performances at night. Hopefully everyone will have a chance to come to our summer specials. We will also be doing a reading incentive for students. Get your incentive sheet at the front desk, beginning June 5 and ending Aug. 5. Subway, McDonald’s, Starbucks, The Menace, Iowa Cubs, Blank Park Zoo, Casey’s, Perfect Games and Fareway have given us several great gifts for our readers. Our bonus incentives will be placed in a box and drawn on Aug. 5th. You must complete the first incentive sheet before working on the bonus sheet. We have Walmart certificates, Target, Time Out, Ben Franklin, Nevada pool passes and Nevada bucks. The more you read, the more entries you can have in the drawing box.

We begin with our first performance on June 14 at 10:30 a.m. Please come and listen to storyteller Dan Bagley. He will delight you with his stories from around the world.

On June 21, the first night performance will be by Ben Jimenez, The Bubble Guy, at 6:30 p.m. By using just a few simple tools, Ben creates beautiful, humorous and mind-boggling soap bubble sculptures.

“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.” The Friends of the Library will be sponsoring ice cream sundaes at our ice cream social on June 28 at 1:30 p.m.

On July 5, 10:30 a.m., Story County Conservation will be presenting. It’s always a fun surprise when they come to Nevada.

Magician Rick Eugene will be at the library on July 12 at 10:30 a.m. Come and enjoy the magic.

During our last week of summer specials, we will be having two events. The first is a brand-new, educational and fun hands-on program catering to all ages. It is Absolute Science! Watch and take part in awesome experiments, while learning the science behind them, on July 19. On July 20, we will be amazed by Magician Keith West. This night performance will be at 6:30 p.m. This will be fun for all ages.

Our performances and prizes are paid for by the Nevada Friends of the Library and co-sponsored by Nevada businesses.

Story times will be posted on the Nevada Public Libraries Facebook page. Please register for story times.

We will again be having movies on Fridays, 10:15 a.m., June 16 through June 21. Please sign up for story times by calling the Nevada Public Library at 382-2628. Remember, our performances are free to the public and no registration needed

Keith West and his partner, Miss Kitty the Library Instructor, will be our final performance for Summer 2017. They will perform at 6:30 p.m. on July 20. Larry Sloan of The Talent Factory and Kelly Kemp of The Kemp Group Independent Insurance Agency, along with a few other local businesses, have generously decided to pay for half of the Ken West summer-ready program.

Aug. 11 is the last day of the program.
