Diagnosis, Treatment & Rehabilitation of Head Trauma to be Discussed

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Continuing Education Department is hosting its first ever Brain Injury Symposium titled, “Shining Light on Concussions,” from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, July 28, in the Bldg. #5 Conference Center on the Ankeny Campus.

Brain injuries, specifically concussions, are in the spotlight more than ever and have become the predominant safety issue for athletes of all ages. This symposium is designed to provide a multidisciplinary interactive education opportunity for those who interact with individuals suffering from brain injury-related symptoms.

The symposium will consider the acute and long-term effects concussions have on the field and in the health care setting.

“This symposium is for those who interface with concussion issues, including coaches, administrators, officials, physicians, athletic trainers, first responders, nurses, physical and occupational therapists and others who might treat individuals with concussions,” said DMACC Continuing Education Coordinator Jill Whitson.

The early registration cost is $100 and ends June 30. Register online at ce.dmacctraining.com (under the Events Tab) or call 515-964-6800. The class is approved for 7.2 nursing contact hours and six hours of formal EMS CEUs.
