A new book at the Colo Public Library is “A Walk with Esther: Teaching True Stories of the WWII Generation” by Deb Bowen. The book shares the journey of a Christian woman, Deb Bowen, and her teenage daughter Cassie, who befriended three Jewish Holocaust survivors – each named Esther. Determined to preserve their stories, Deb recruited young authors and illustrators to create books for young readers. The project, now known as A Book By Me, includes a Holocaust Series. All the books are written by children for children. Cassie, now a teacher, creates matching curriculum for each book. Karen Cody received a grant through Thrivent Financial and donated 20 of the 10-page children’s Holocaust books. Thank you so much to Karen for this wonderful addition to the library. A Book by Me seeks to preserve the history of the Holocaust and other human rights issues. Our desire is to preserve the stories for the next generation so lessons of tolerance, empathy, hope and respect are not lost.
