It’s not too late to register to attend the Lincoln Highway Association’s National Conference in Denison this summer. The Iowa Chapter has been busy organizing the conference and has many interesting activities planned.
It all starts on Tuesday, June 20, in the Boulders Conference Area, with registration at 9 a.m.. A display room, book room and art room will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Optional on-your-own tours will be offered after registration at Templeton Rye in Templeton and at the German Hausbarn in Manning. Attendees are asked to wear their conference name tags at these sites. Art work from area schools will be judged in the morning and cash awards designated. Evening entertainment will be provided by Cece Otto and Wayne Shannon at Boulders Conference Area, followed by an evening buffet for LHA members and guest speakers.
Wednesday will feature an eastbound bus tour to Ogden, with stops at select sites for photo opportunities or to learn more about the highway, the local area and Iowa. An evening meal at the Crawford County Fairgrounds will be followed by a tour of the Donna Reed Museum and Theater.
Thursday is the westbound bus tour to Elkhorn, Neb., with stops along the way for participants to learn more and tour a few museums. Another evening meal will be served at the Crawford County Fairgrounds, with a classic automobile and tractor display, adult beverages and ample time to relax and visit with others. The public is encouraged to come to the fairgrounds after 7 p.m. to meet with Association members and learn more about the Lincoln Highway.
Friday, June 23, is a full day of guest speakers. Their topics are varied and it will be an interesting and informative day. The postmaster will be present to cancel postcards with a special postal mark designed especially for the conference. The evening awards banquet buffet will be held at Cronk’s Café. Along with an awards presentation, a preview of next year’s conference in New Jersey will be presented.
Saturday, June 24, will be the closing breakfast and general meeting, held at Cronk’s Café.
