Celebrate Medical Center Week today!


Story County Medical Center in Nevada is celebrating Medical Center Week, May 7-13, by hosting a Community BBQ on Thursday, May 11 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at all its Story County locations. Outdoor seating will be provided at Story Medical locations in Ames, Maxwell, Zearing and at the Nevada north campus. Lunch will also be served at the Nevada South Campus with indoor seating.


Fish Fry this Friday


Hungry for more fish? Come to the American Legion on Sixth Street in Nevada this Friday, May 12, for another Fish Fry. For those of you who would like something different, an alternate choice will be meatloaf. Serving time will be 5-7:30 p.m. Bring your family and friends and enjoy the evening; leave the cooking to the veterans.


Bike Rodeo in Nevada


Area youth and their parents and/or guardians are invited to participate in this weekend’s Bike Rodeo, an annual event in Nevada offering bike safety tips, bicycle checks, licensing of bikes, a bicycle obstacle course and more. Kids should bring their bikes to the parking lot of City Hall, on Sixth Street, this Saturday, May 13, anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.


Genealogy program on war records


The Genealogy Plus! program, “Civil War Records,” is Wednesday May 17, 10 a.m. to noon at the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave. The program is free and open to the public. The records of the Civil War hold vast genealogical value about soldiers of the North and South. Learn about these military records, what info they hold, where they may be found and how to access them. Sharon Avery, archivist, is our Genealogy Plus! guest speaker in May and will address how to find and use these valuable Civil War records.
