Spring Book Sale

Attend the Colo Library’s spring book sale on Friday, April 7, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s more than books, with items like DVDs, magazines and cake pans also offered. Nothing will be priced over $1.

Walk-In Paint Your Own Pottery: Gnome Gnight

From 3-inch minis to a foot-tall “Ginormagnome,” the Workspace at Iowa State’s Memorial Union has a cast of characters that are fun to decorate and add to your indoor or outdoor space. We will show you the basics of painting your piece, and then we will fire it within a week for you to come pick up. Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend, plus the cost of the bisque you select. This is open to all ages, if accompanied by an adult. Walk in anytime from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, April 7, to take part.

Uhlenhopp Benefit

Don’t miss the opportunity to get together with friends and support a great former teacher, Darwin Uhlenhopp, at a benefit basketball event this weekend. On Saturday, April 8, from 5-10 p.m., the following things will be taking place at the high school:

5:30-7 p.m. - A meal in the commons area, sponsored by the Presbyterian Church

6-8 p.m. - View an Iowa Donor Network Display

6-9 p.m. - There will be a silent auction in the high school foyer area sponsored by the Nevada Kiwanis Club

Then, of course, basketball action as follows: 5:30-6:20 - Men from 1981 to 1990; 6:30-7:20 - women 6 on 6 from 1975 to 1993; 7:30-8:20 - Men from 1991 to 2000; and from 8:30-9:20 p.m. - men from 2001 to 2010.

Jazz Jam

Heartland’s Jazz Jam will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, April 7, at Heartland Senior Services, 205 S. Walnut Ave. in Ames. If you are looking for a little swing and soul, stop on by.
