Golden K Kiwanis

President-Elect Gwen Frese called the Feb. 4 meeting of Golden K Kiwanis to order with 21 members and three guests present. Bob Frese served as greeter and Gwen Frese gave the invocation.

Nevada High FFA Chapter members Zach Thomas and Brooklyn Mackey, along with their instructor Kevin Cooper, presented information about the 2nd Annual Iowa High School Renewable Energy Conference, scheduled for March 26 at Nevada High School. The 123 Nevada FFA members have worked to help organize on-campus and off-campus sessions and keynote speakers focusing on the topics of solar energy, wind turbine technology, biofuels processing and renewable energy career opportunities.

The DuPont Cellulosic Ethanol Plant, Lincolnway Energy, BECON Research Facility and Couser Cattle Company are among the companies providing off-campus informational sessions and demonstrations for the Iowa High School Renewable Energy Conference.

Brooke Mackey attended the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., where she participated in leadership skills sessions and enjoyed tours of Churchill Downs and the Buffalo Trace Distillery.

At the suggestion of Bob Gardner, Golden K members voted to continue the road cleanup project in Nevada.

Dick Atwell won the 50/50 drawing at the close of the meeting.
