On Sept. 21, parishioners of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will sponsor a benefit for Liam Schmitt, newborn son of Peter and Libbey Schmitt. The benefit will run from 4-7 p.m. at the Roland-Story Middle School, 206 Main St., Roland. The benefit will include a pulled pork dinner, silent and live auction, T-shirts and wristband sales, and free kids’ games and petting zoo. Pop tabs will be collected for the benefit of the Ronald MacDonald house as well.
Liam was born with a congenital heart defect called tricuspid atresia. Liam will have three surgeries to correct the defect. His surgeries are taking place at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) in Milwaukee, requiring extensive travel and prolonged stays away from home. Peter and Libbey are both third year veterinary medicine students at Iowa State University.
