Nevada Rotary

President Jon Augustus called the meeting to order. Lynn Scarlett shared upcoming Chamber of Commerce events with the group. New Junior Rotarian officers were introduced and events at the high school were reported.

Chris Waddle led the group in prayer. Rod Biensen played piano while the group sang along to “School Days.” Most of the club members and Junior Rotarians then organized to spend an afternoon of service to the community. Team leaders were announced and their team members were assigned. Each group was assigned homes that had requested help with fall yardwork. The group raked leaves, trimmed shrubbery and cleaned gutters.

The Nevada Rotary Club spends many hours performing public service for the community. Several members recently helped with the Lincoln Highway Days parade.

Nevada Golden K Kiwanis

Seventeen members responded to roll call for the Nevada Golden K Kiwanis on Oct. 24. Dennis Van Allen and Jody Melcher were guests. President Darrell Staley led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Gwen Frese gave our invocation, followed by the group singing “America the Beautiful.”

Our program was given by Laura Van Allen. She recently returned from a trip to Europe, spending three days in Paris and two and a half weeks in Italy. She told of the places she visited and about all the modes of transportation — planes, trains, metros, buses, automobiles and boats. One highlight was spending three nights in a castle in Sienna, constructed in the 1200s.

Jody Melcher reported on the progress of funding the Miracle Park to be constructed in Ames. It will feature special needs equipment, as well as serve as a city park. K-Kids had 53 in attendance in the third and fourth grades and nine were present in the fifth and sixth grades. They are working on service projects.

Bob Collins won the 50/50 drawing. Our club is always open to guests and visitors. Come see what we are about.
