At the July 25 meeting, President Joel Hutcheson gave the program. Joel is a Ph.D. at USDA laboratories in Ames and specializes in the study of ticks. Joel showed the locations of various ticks that are in all 99 counties of Iowa. He described some of the diseases caused by various ticks, such as Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Joel discussed the method for removing ticks and some of the techniques for preventing ticks getting on a person. Thank you, Joel, for a very interesting program!
